Session 1 —
I received a letter today by runner. It’s from Simon. I haven’t heard from the gang in weeks. Simon is asking us to meet to discuss a potential opportunity for the procurement of wealth. Money will certainly further my goals. We are to meet tomorrow in the market district to discuss this opportunity.
Simon’s cousin (who works in politics I assume) has asked if we could go investigate and speak to the representatives of Thord on behalf of Tyne about unification into the city-state of Kaddaran.
It seems we have all agreed to embark on this journey to Thord. We all have our basic supplies ready and have finished up last minute chores. All we need now is horses. Ari’ta has offered to buy all our horses in exchange for a future favor (which I can only assume will be of a sexual nature). As I am unequipped to assist her in this regard I have decided to buy my own horse.
- 75gp for a horse.
We have headed out from Tyne with our newly purchased horses and traveled uneventfully for the day and decided to camp out off the main road in the woods. Oliver took the first 3 watches as he seems to need much less sleep then the rest of us & I took 4th watch.
During my 4th watch we were ambushed:
I perceived a threat but could not tell just what it was or where. I swear I heard a growling sound.
used 1 lvl-0 spell (dancing lights) to light up the woods surrounding the camp to see the enemy.
6 hungry wolves charged into the camp at us at the sight of my lights
I took 7dmg from 1 wolf biting me and it dragged me to the ground
took 5dmg from the other wolf, now down to 1 life (man I need better armour)
healed by Ari’ta who was quickly by my side, now at 3 life
used 1 lvl-1 spell (magic missile) on the wolf closest to me as I stand back up.
I could see Oliver near the edge of the woods fighting off 2 wolves but while on his back, on the ground, he managed to spit roast one of the wolves clean through. Ari’ta and I have 2 wolves to deal with still and it looks like 3 are converging on Simon. After Oliver shot clean through his wolf, the other thought Simon was a lesser threat and converged on him.
I managed to pierce 1 wolf with my trident threw the neck and it died there.
healed by Ari’ta again now at 6 life
stabbed wolf in-front of Ari’ta for 4dmg
glanced wolf in-front of Ari’ta for 1dmg
I watched as Ari’ta finished off the other wolf in-front of us with her flail (what a mess)
Now that I was clear of wolves I wanted to try to show off my combat prowess to my group because to be honest, I’m a squishy and I wanted to prove my worth. I attempted to do an epic running leap charge at one of the wolves left in-front of Simon but fell a foot short of my target and landed face first on the ground with the wolf staring me in the face….oops. (so much for proving my worth)
while laying on the ground face to face with a wolf I tried to reach up and kill the wolf with a magic missile by shoving my hand down it’s throat but the wolf bit my hand and I lost the spell. (double epic fail!)
used 1 lvl-1 spell (magic missile)
now at -1 health…..lol (can I even die?)
the rest of the group finished off the remaining wolves and Ari’ta came to stabilize me so I would not bleed out. I regained consciousness and began self-repairs.
spent most of the remaining night repairing my wounds & re-adding my disguise
Ari’ta & I spent some time skinning/pilfering wolves for components and rations:
wolves ear x12, wolf paws x12, wolf eyes x12, wolf teeth x24, wolf pelt x6 & Ari’ta salvaged about 24 rations for the road.
Now that we have cleaned up the mess and started to break camp, we have decided to try to make it the rest of the way to Thord without incident. (we hope)
We have passed over the plains and can now see the “city” of Thord in the distance. The last 2 days were very uneventful. Trees, birds, bears, the odd caravan headed to this market or that but otherwise nothing important happened.
Surrounded by a large mote with bridges and stairs (allowing the only access to the city) stood Thord, home of the halflings & protected by ogres.
I wonder what will happen when we try to approach.
